Set for Life?

Today’s Workout: 5 Miles @ 8:15 pace (Easy Day!)

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. I am feeling better and training has picked back up right where I had left off. Tuesday night I ran the New Balance 1 mile Random Relay It was a blast. I warmed up with some friends and found my new “teammates”. Basically you sign up for the race and are grouped with two strangers as your relay team. Each teammate runs 1 mile. When I saw I was teamed up with two speedy high school boys I immediately became intimidated. Why do I do this? I even told a friend that I would be the weak link. It was out of insecurity which was ridiculous. I have to stop beating myself up like that. I ended up with the fastest split of my team and was happy with my 5:36 mile. It was in the middle of a tough week, in my trainers, on a paved trail course, and in 90 degree heat. I was the 2nd runner in the relay and watching the super speedy guys of the first relay leg come in from their turn was awesome and exciting. I really enjoyed it!

A few weeks ago I won a cute gift card to Running, Etc. and it’s been burning a hole in my pocket.

Between the gift card and my athlete discount I made out like a bandit. Anyone want to take a wild guess at how long it will take me to go through this stash? 48 Gu’s total and 16 Honey Stinger Waffles total. I’m thinking I’m set for life. I am only exaggerating a tiny bit. Last year I think I used maybe 15 Gu’s total (including races) but this year I’ve made it a point to run smarter when it comes to nutrition so we’ll see how many I end up with.

Every once in a while (ok maybe once a week) Renee High will text me asking if I want to join on some crazy hard workout. She is such a killer. Tomorrow is one of those monster workout days. We will run 18 total with the Allen Stone BraveHeart Memorial 5K thrown in towards the end. What am I willing to do to get to the next level? Whatever it takes!

Have a great weekend everyone! Happy Training!

  1. Way to show those young boys what it’s all about! Killer split!

Last spring I did a 5k at the end of a 22-miler. It was, let’s say, a bit slower than my usual 5k. But a fun way to do it. Enjoy.

    • Frameworks don’t just tell people how to do stuff, they also rvpdoie tools that do stuff themselves, which is less like a franchise and more like industrial equipment factory. Using outdated equipment and not doing any development, because it’s all subjective , is a sure way to technology stagnation. Also, since when do we want to have less franchises? The problem is not that there are a lot of frameworks, but that they are very similar to one another (Java-style coding, Rails-style organization ), highly complex and not modular enough to use whatever good components they have separately.

  2. Glad to see that you are doing better. Sorry for your loss. Great to hear about your training going well. I’ve started doing speed work but in this heat it’s going a little rough. Have a great weekend.

  3. So sorry for your loss Kris, seems like you are getting back to doing the things you love, which always makes the healing a little bit easier. Great job in your mile, you are so speedy πŸ™‚

PS. I have got to try those Honey Stinger waffles, everyone has them!

  4. Peanut butter energy gel? I have never seen that. GU doesn’t agree with me, I use chews instead, usually Clitf Shot Bloks for running (you can cut the package and half and it’s easy to stuff in your pocket, and Sharkies on my bike (less sticky than bloks).

  5. Glad to hear you’re getting back into the swing of things. Your run was awesome–how fun it must have been to pass up those boys. πŸ˜‰

I have never heard of the waffles before–I had to go look them up. They look really good!! I’ve been meaning to try the Gu, but I worry about it being too sweet. Maybe the peanut butter would be okay!

    I love reading your updates!
