If you run 100 miles a week, you can eat anything you want — Why? Because
(a) you’ll burn all the calories you consume,
(b) you deserve it, and
(c) you’ll be injured soon and back on a restricted diet anyway.
Do I believe that quote? No…it just made me smile.
Yesterday I was able to see a new doctor. He answered all of my questions, gave helpful advice, told me what I had been doing wrong, and most of all confirmed what I had already suspected:
As negative as this sounds, I am thankful. The tear is so deep that I have been paranoid that it was a torn tendon, fractured bone, or compartment syndrome. Many of the things I thought were helping have been making the tear worse. The doctor gave me a referral to a physical therapist but as a mom with 3 kids not in school full-time and a husband in the military I was relieved to hear him say it was not necessary. I’ve been given some exercises (not stretches) to do daily, will be icing, compressing, and relaxing. I have plenty of time before my “A” race (Twin Cities in October) and want to be 100% healthy before that marathon cycle begins. In another week or two I will begin cross training again. If anyone has any helpful advice I’d love to hear it and soon I will write about my fun weekend in D.C.
